Found by accident the original 1989 live recording of TEB's gig at Teatro Impavidi!

Some weeks ago I was with my friend musician and filmaker Francesco Paolo Paladino at his home chatting and planning new mad adventures for the future, when I asked him to check his TEB collection in his fabulous chamber of sounds. My intention was to mock him because I was sure he didn't have much of the band...

Incredibly enough, I had the surprise to found, between many CDs and some few cassettes, also the original tape recorded at Teatro Impavidi (Sarzana, Italy) on January 11th, 1989 from which, few months later the gig, I  released a 200 copies limited edition cassette only for the fans!

Titled "New Age Music", this was quite a great surprise because I had totally forgot it. Checking the tape, inside the poor photocopied cover there is my old visiting card with two simple indications written on it:

limited edition: 200 copies

copy number: 002

The thing even more strange is that I have no copies in my personal archive... but the really amazing surprise is that this is the full concert with ALL the tracks played that evening and not simply the edition released by ADN in 1990 as "New Forecasts from the Third Ear Almanac" and later reissued by Gonzo Multimedia (as HST312CD, 2015).

The tape shows also the right sequence with the original titles selected by Sweeney and then partially changed for the A.D.N. tape:

1. "More Mosaic"

2. "Egyptian Book Of The Dead"

3. "Third Ear Raga"

4. "Ghosts" (a.k.a. Live Ghosts)

5. "Lark Rise"

6. "The Sun Trolley Raga" (a.k.a.Witches Dance)

I can only guess that ADN decided to reduce the recording for technical reasons (the lenght of the tape at that time related to a standard LP), and it's a pity that we couldn't listen to the full set with the rare Dave Tomlin's "Lark Rise".

Maybe a new edition in the future?

Found in a book the xilography by Mario Balestreri.

Found in a book a few days ago, this is a postcard reproducing the original Mario Balestreri's xylography I used for the cover of "New Forecasts from the Third Ear Almanac", released in 1989 by A.D.N. of Milan.
Born in 1918 and passed away in 2006, Balestreri was a well-known artist in my town, Cremona, as a painter, incisor and writer.
Here below you can see two works by him and a picture of him in his studio:

From 1989 the original xilography, along with Balestreri's other ones, is hanging on my kitchen.

TEB gig in Piacenza will be published in September/October 2016.

After checking the TEB audio tape recorded on January 14th, 1989 in Piacenza, Gonzo Multimedia approved the next prodution.
Titled "Spirits", the CD will be published in September, with a cover/booklet designed by Martin Cook and the sounds engineered by John Hughes.
The booklet has been written by Luca Chino Ferrari and Francesco Paolo Paladino, who shot the original video in 1989.
The about one hour concert was played by the same line-up of "New Forecasts of the Third Ear Almanac" (Sweeney, Carter, Smith and Dobson) and it will be some great surprises for all the fans...

After having checked the proofs of the booklet that will be included in the second Gonzo Multimedia's CD, where I've written some things about the first Italian TEB's tours, Rob Ayling confirms the second brand new TEB's album - with a digital rendition of "New forecasts from the Third Ear Almanac" - will be ready in a couple of months.
Here's the original front and back covers:

Two new Third Ear Band albums planned!

Gonzo Multimedia is working on two new CDs of the Third Ear Band with the cooperation of Ghetto Raga Archive (& Carolyn Looker)!
One of the two it will be the rendition of Sarzana live concert recorded on January 1989, a very hard to find in its original (official) tape edition (published by A.D.N. Records of Milan in 1990); the other one will be a compilation of (top secret!) rarities and let the fans to listen digital versions of obscure 'classics' of Our Holy Band just at the beginning of its story...
So, dear irreducible TEB fans... cross your fingers!

The core of it. Some personal autosuggestions of postfolk-shaman Sedayne about the Third Ear Band.

An artist is an artist - an artist, an artist, an artist - as George Sand would tell today about Sedayne (Sean Breadin), the English postfolk shaman devoted to strong fieldworks on traditional soundscapes.
These are some inspired suggestions by him to get us ready for the Autumn-Winter season...

"A visitor to my house recently looked through my CD shelf and was surprised to see more than the three old Third Ear Band albums they were aware of. They hadn't known of the Hydrogen Jukebox, nor yet the re-union era Italian albums, much less Abelard and Heloise and The Magus; they hadn't known of all the rarities that have emerged in recent years from The National Balkan Ensemble to the session material (ancient & modern) or the German DVD and the French TV footage.

Time was, I was well content with my three Third Ear Band albums - old habits die hard: on cold Autumn mornings I always play Macbeth. Alchemy is special beyond measure - I only play it when it snows! Elements I play on stormy elemental evenings remembering the friends I never saw again after I first played it to them - Gong they could cope with, but the Third Ear Band was going too far.

These days - God knows. I often find myself playing Brainwaves when I'm cooking. It's nothing special in the way the other albums are, but it is Glen - the heart and soul of the Tertius Auris; Shaman, Trickster and catalyst for some of the finest music I've ever heard. Hell, even The Magus has its moments of utter transcendence, and Druid Grocking on the German footage is one of the most astonishing things I've heard in my entire life.

The core remains the pure Alchemy of the four elementals though, as revealed on the French film: Richard is Fire - he burns & blazes, relentless, hungrily consuming the silences whilst lighting the very dark & warming the bitter cold; Paul is Air - he blows as the rushing wind that moves the waves & sets the very trees a dancing; Glen is the Earth - the stone circle dragon-alignments that set pulse and pattern to both enrich and
reveal the very chaos of nature; and Ursula is Water - she flows, she sparkles and she thunders in the depths of the unfathomable abyss. At least that's how I see it anyway.

Oh, and I forgot to mention New Forecasts, featuring Ursula on Sybilic Violin by way of pure Revelation, as the best of it remains, eternally...".
