Thanks the rare kindness of a fabulous English record shop - BEATCHAPTER (www.beatchapter.com) - I've got an old precious article about the Third Ear Band published on "Beat Instrumental" (issue 132) on October 1971.
Written by S.T. (Steve Turner), is an interesting cross-section of the Band in that year, just after the (failed) attempt to become a pop group and during the recording sessions for Polanski's "Macbeth" film soundtrack.
Glen Sweeney quotes his favourite musicians - Terry Riley, Miles Davis, Gyorgy Ligeti (!!!) - saying: "It's very hard to me get into Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young for instance. This is because it's all vocals and I don't seem to be able to relate to it in the way I feel I should"...

Hi Luca, do you know that Oz magazine has an online archive? http://www.ozit.co.uk/
ReplyDeleteI've searched for reviews or articles about TEB but I just found some Blackhill Enterprises' advertisings so far, on issue 22, 23 and 26. The serpents drawn by Carolyn Looker for the cover of Alchemy appear on many pages of issue 22...
Have a nice sunday :-)
Thanks for it, I'll check it out...

Just watched STIGMA - a BBC Ghost Story from 1977 featuring some odd snippets of AIR and MACBETH, weirdly mixed and served up in a creepy tale filmed at Avebury in which a stone is dug up to reveal a ritual burial + rusty daggers... Alas for the wife of the house who bleeds to death in some supernatural transferal, or whatever.
ReplyDeleteThe whole thing's on YouTube. The BBC used to show these at Christmas - so - Happy Christmas!
