TEB book out soon...
Finally, the book on the TEB I edited three years ago will be printed by Recommended Records with a 6-track CD attached - ALL the tracks the band recorded at the end 1970-beginning 1971 for the never issued third album "The Dragon Wakes" (not included in Cherry Red's reissues).
Known as "the Balham sessions", these tracks were recorded by two different line-ups between Balham and E.M.I. studios; guitar player Denim Bridges took them jealously for years.
Thanks to Denim, we can listen now to these fabulous music played by Sweeney, Minns, Bridges, Buckmaster, House and Coff!
The book collects Glen's poems, manifestos, writings, aphorisms, interviews; memories by Carolyn Looker, Minns, Buckmaster, Bridges, Jenner and many other persons involved; a full audio/videography; a chronology. Lot of rare, unseen picture of Sweeney and the band, posters and documents...

Denny Bridges about the three unrealised "Macbeth" tracks.
News from our friend Denny Bridges, the guitar player of TEB on "Macbeth" and for "The Dragon Wakes" sessions, now coming back to live in Somerset, England.
Discussing again the idea to release the unrealised tracks recorded at Balham in February 1971, he writes to me about the three unrealised tracks the TEB recorded at the Trident Studios on December 5th, 1970, months before the beginning of the recordings at the Air Studios for the Polanski's soundtrack.
"The tracks "Court Dance", "Groom's Dance" and "Fleance" needed to be recorded in advance of the filming of Macbeth. The dances needed to be choreographed and taught to the actors. Also, the role of Fleance was decided, at least in part, by how well the boy sang the song. Well done young Keith Chegwin!
A departure from the way TEB functioned of course; the song I wrote and I presented the defined melody and chords to the band so that was all set in stone. Its not surprising that all and any takes of the song sound the same although probably, after some run-throughs, there was just the one take. As for the dances, in advance of the recording date, we improvised at the rehearsal studio in Balham until we came up with a framework that fitted the description of the dances. We then went into the studio and, as per usual, improvised the pieces afresh using the framework we had from the rehearsals until we got the best take. So that's what the Trident recordings probably are - us trying different approaches. All three pieces are used in the movie and on the album."

Updates about Glen's book and TEB CDs...
"Spirits"
Due a different planning of the catalogue (many records by Arthur Brown and Rick Wakeman!) and some misunderstandings with Gonzo, the new TEB live album will be available just from August 18th, 2017.
Recorded at Tuxedo Club, Piacenza, on January 14th, 1989, this is a great concert in a strange day-off tour date with a rare performance of Dave Tomlin's "Lark Rise" played by a wonderful line-up - Glen Sweeney (hand drums), Mick Carter (electric guitar & effects), Lyn Dobson (flute, sax) and Ursula Smith (violin).
The book
Brain Waves
Now finished, it contains 25 poems, 3 manifestos, aphorisms, interviews with and about Glen Sweeney, memories of Paul Minns, Dave Tomlin, Steve Pank, Morgan Fisher, Clive Kingsley, Paul Buckmaster, Ben Meredith, Carolyn Looker, Andrew King, Linda Kattan...; posters, ads, photos, some of them from the family archive.
Cover and graphics by talented Martin Cook. The book is scheduled for September 2017.

The reissue of the last Ma.So. album recorded in 1993, now deleted, will be available from September 2017. It will show a brand new booklet and one bonus-track.
For pre-order please go to Gonzo Website at http://www.gonzomultimedia.co.uk/pre-orders.html.
Other projects/ideas around
Gonzo intends to reissue that old 'strange' "Radio Session" CD made by Voiceprint in 2004 (21' only) enhanced with some live unrealised tracks. This CD is scheduled for next November.
Also, at the beginning of 2018 there's the idea to reissue the Hydrogen Jukebox CD "Prophecies" (now deleted, it seems the album circulated just in Italy...) with a brand new cover and booklet. No unrealised tracks included, I guess.
Another interesting project could be the publication of a full concert the band played in Mantua in February, 11th 1992, one of the last gigs ever played. An Italian TEB fan, friend of mine, Flavio Poltronieri recorded the concert and he's agreed to realise it...
Still no news from Denim Bridges about the legendary Balham recording sessions (he's very busy with Reinassance on a worldwide tour), but I am optimistic about the chance to see it on CD one day...

The last TEB cornucopia: what's happened to the 1971 Balham Studios sessions? (an update).
Dear TEB addicts,
what's happened to the project of realising the last cornucopia of TEB unrealised tracks? Denim Bridges, who owns the old recordings played in February 1971 by the Band at the Balham Studios for an announced "The Dragon Wakes" record never realised, wrote me a brief e-mail few days ago.
Here's the stuff:
Here's the stuff:
"Hi, Luca,
2016 has been a busy year for me so far with live shows in USA, the Moody Blues cruise and a short tour of UK all with Renaissance.
I did a little work on TEB in 2015 but it still did not result in enough material for a CD.
I'm sure you once asked me in an email 'who is Mary Minns?'; I see from a recent addition to Ghettoraga that you now know. I am very interested in the details in the 'interview' with regard to Paul's children. It may have relevance if I can make something of the old recordings.
I am in UK and spending some time in London.
I will be until July 24th and could be available to talk or meet with anyone concerned. You can give my email to whomever.
Best regards,
Denny".

Denim Bridges talks about the unknown 1971 German TV video...
I've asked Paul Buckmaster and Denim Bridges to help us to rebuild the origin of the video excerpt recently emerged from the Web. If Paul admits: "I have no idea what this session was; don't recognize the studio, and don't remember the piece, and it certainly is not from the Macbeth movie score", Denny's memory is precise and he explains this:
"The video was filmed at Studio 3 at EMI Abbey Road. The date of February 1971 is close if not correct. The session definitely had nothing to do with the Macbeth project.
For future reference it is definite that all the performances (all work on 'composition', and in rehearsal) at the Balham location was never filmed".

"I don't know why the session was held although I do remember it. I was never included in those matters. I hope the purpose will be discovered now the video is on the Internet. Because of the faux wind sound (from Simon's VCS3 I think) and the fact the Paul Minns played something reminiscent of the opening to 'Air' off the 2nd LP I'm assuming the track is supposed to be 'Air'. The performance soon departs from the above mentioned version but with cello being replaced by both bass guitar and guitar that might be expected. That is also (probably) to be expected as TEB was primarily an improvisational band".

Wonderful short 1971 TEB video found on the Web!
This wonderful unknown video emerged recently from the Web at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1F74SlICW-k thanks the fan durchhaltenbis70.
It's a 3 minutes video probably taken by a German TV from studio sessions in 1971, in the same period when the band was recording the announced third album titled "The Dragon Wakes": as we know, that album was never realised and the tracks soon became legendary for every TEB fans.
Here we can see the electric TEB recording in this line-up: Glen Sweeney on drums, Paul Minns on oboe, Denim Bridges on electric guitar, Paul Buckmaster on electric bass and Simon House on violin.
Another extraordinary find about the Third Ear Band!

Balham sessions'unrealised TEB tracks album postponed.
Asking by mail to Denim Bridges about some news on the projected new TEB album with the tracks from the Balham sessions (February 1971), this is his kind (& very interesting) answer:
"Hi Luca,
good to hear from you. I regret I have not been able to spend anytime on TEB. I have needed to concentrate on recording CDs for Fiona Frensche and promoting my album ("Go For Gold" by The Bevans) through iTunes, Amazon and Zunes:

You will hear better samples of the songs at
or

The samples are shortened versions of the whole song not just the first 30 secs.
I am going to be touring as the sound engineer for Renaissance this summer. There is talk of a tour of Italy next year. I hope to get time to dedicate to TEB in the autumn/ fall.
I saw about the cover of "Fleance"'s song. I'd like to hear it. Glen and Paul hated that track because it didn't fit in with TEB concept. It was composed for the movie and it was composed by me alone. The words were provided to me so I, of course, just wrote the melody and chords. The turn around where I repeat the line as a sort of refrain was my trick that I often use(d) and using the minor chord was cool I think. The rest of the band improvised the arrangement in TEB style as best we could within the ridged structure. Anyway that song was the start of my demise with TEB as that's the way I wanted TEB to go. Finally a spelling correction - it's "Groom's Dance" not "Groam's Dance".
My memory is going. As I said I was the 'songwriter' in TEB and we have ascertained the "Mistress To The Sun" had been lost. I am also confused regarding "I The Key". For me to have played it on Peel's show I must have written it but I don't remember it. But, I didn't remember the song from Hamburg until you showed me the video. When I get to a computer instead of my iPhone I might be able to access some links.
Anyway, I'll keep you informed.
Regards, Denny"
